These Android applications, available on Google Play, have been designed by a veterinary large animal medicine specialist. Their aim is to assist both students, veterinarians and owners with various aspects of equine treatment and evaluation.
Although designed specifically for horses, the calculations for most sections can be used for small animals. User data input for small animal weights will provide accurate data for these species, with maintenance fluid requirements set at 60ml/kg/day.

The Android apps are designed for use on both tablets and mobile phones. They can also be installed on Windows computers by installing the free program BlueStacks after installation through Google Play. Instructions for use on PC can be found at the Bluestacks link on this website.
The Equine Body Weight Calculator is the newest release by Vet Pro Online. Designed for both owners and veterinarians, this calculator will provide more accurate estimates of body weight required for administration of medication and monitoring of equine health. Body weight can be calculated not only for adult horses and ponies, but also DONKEYS (adult and juvenile), MINIATURE HORSES and THOROUGHBRED FOALS.
This application uses research based formulas which are referenced within the App. Text descriptions and images are provided to enable the user to accurate gather the necessary measurements on each equine. Most commercial weight tapes are designed for adult thoroughbred horses and have margins of error of up to 50kg (positive or negative). Body weight of other breed types and ages are also not accurately estimated using these tapes. Measurements can be taken in both centimetres and inches for all bar one of the formulas, and weight given in kilograms or pounds.

The Equine Fluid Therapy suite of Apps will allow veterinary students and clinicians to rapidly calculate fluid therapy requirements for the adult horse. Based on user input of patient body weight and other variables, fluid requirements can be obtained for maintenance, deficits and losses. In addition, calculations can be made for fluid rates (l/hr, drops/sec) and other fluids such as plasma and whole blood. Additional sections are included for other additives such as bicarbonate, potassium and practical composition of oral / enteral fluids.
The Equine Fluid Therapy + App is an expanded version the Equine Fluid Therapy App with added sections for drug volumes, CRIs, antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, sedatives and anaesthetics.
